Joel and Ethan Coen bring forward a satirical look at a murder in Minnesota.
The accents in this movie are just precious as they make it sound like
everyone in this film is from Scandanavia. To me though this film seemed
a little bit confusing. I still don't understand what the William H. Macy
character was in debt for so badly that he needed the money. He was stealing
from GMAC but for what. The family lived a modest existence and it just
seemed as if $320,000 just disappeared. Though it was hard to figure out
some of the plot points, the clever humor had a great impact. Memorable
to me was the cop investigating the original triple homicide and reaching
just all the wrong conclusions until Frances Mcdormand's character helps
him out. I found the movie to be a devilish mixture of reality and satire,
and even though I know that Minnesotans aren't as naïve as they were
portrayed the portrayal added to the film in an enormous way. Fargo is
a good choice and I would definitely rent it for a different look at life
in the Upper Midwest.
Grade: B
Parents Guide: Rated R, this film contains a large amount of language
of the four letter variety. Also its themes are extremely dark and at times
a bit disturbing. Not great viewing for kids under 17.
