She
stages her own kidnapping at which she expects to be found and go running
into her father's arms. Unfortunately for Emily, Vincent Roche (Benicio
Del Toro) likes her car and decides to add it to his collection of stolen
cars. He, of course, doesn't realize that she is in the trunk of
her car waiting for her dad to find her. Vincent knows the risks
in what he does but he is not ready for the police presence that follows
him after stealing Emily's car.
It doesn't take Vincent real long to figure
out the mess that he has stumbled into, or does it??? And can he
get away with stealing this car, and maybe even this girl? Once Emily's
dad figures out the "scum" he is dealing with in Vincent and the plot his
daughter cooked up.....he sends Raymond Perkins (Christopher Walken) to
get his daughter back quietly and unharmed. The determined Perkins
sets his mind to getting Emily back and clearing her name all in one.
What happens???? You'll have to watch the movie.
Let me first say...I loved Alicia Silverstone
in Clueless and I liked her in the Aerosmith videos. Now the Batman
and Robin part.....that was a bit of a stretch, but she wasn't in the movie
enough to pass any kind of real judgement. But this movie.......
Let's just say I wasn't at all impressed.
Alicia
just seemed to force her way through the film. One moment she's clever
and the next she is "playing dumb". Her part just seemed to go all
over the map, and she couldn't really pin down where to go with it.
But it wasn't totally her fault. Her costar Benicio Del Toro was
even worse.
Del Toro is his role as Vincent was just flat out annoying to me. He was really dumb and aloof throughout much of the film and he reminded me a lot of the way that Jason Patric struggled through Speed 2. Even Harry Connick Jr. in his role as Vincent's cohort Greg turns in a less than admirable performance. After various other impressive roles this one was very forgettable. Christopher Walken was even subpar, but seemed to be the best suited to his role in this film.
I was really disappointed and expected more out of Alicia in this performance. The majority of the appeal of this film was on Alicia's shoulders and unfortunately it just didn't work for me. I hope Alicia keeps at it, because I think she is extremely talented. Heck most decent actors have had their share of bomb's during their career.
Grade: D
Parents
Guide: Young adults will want to see this movie because
of Alicia Silverstone. Overall there are a lot of themes that parents
may not want their children to learn. Language is plentiful and the
sexual overtones are presents. Most of all though, this is a bad
film from a content point, so tell your kids to save their money.
