The crime fighter to top all crime fighters, the lover to top all lovers, ahhh yes Austin Powers had it all in the 60's.  Every woman was in love with him, and he with them, and every criminal feared him.  One of the top agents in the British Intelligence force and yet he allows them to freeze him so that he will be able to fight theAustin and the Fembots.  dastardly Dr. Evil when Evil wakes up from his frozen slumber.  Sound like a great man?  Sound like a patriot?  Well I am talking about Austin Powers:  International Man of Mystery.

Austin Powers (Mike Myers) and Dr. Evil (Mike Myers) both awake in the 90s.  Evil is here to terrorize the world while he makes demands of $1 million dollars as his ransom, and Powers is here simply to catch Dr. Evil and maybe do a little "shagging".  When they wake up they both are soon to find out that the 90s are not much like the 60s; things have changed.  Austin is shocked to find out that "swing" like they did in the 60s, and Evil is shocked to learn that noone filled him in on the fact that $1 million dollars just wasn't a whole lot of money anymore.

Mike Myers is truly amazing in this sort of James Bondesque parody.  He seems to be enjoying himself as he does his duel role of Austin and Dr. Evil and it shows. Myers and HurleyEvery time Austin is on screen it's fun to just try and figure out what his next tactic will be.  Whether it's his attempts to "shag" women, capture Dr. Evil, or elude the dastardly FemBots, Powers just finds a way to be funny.  Elizabeth Hurley is Powers' more than associate Vanessa Kensington.  Hurley is perfect as the shy, uninviting Vanessa who first can't figure out how her mother ever liked Austin.....but she just might come around.

This was a fresh and innovative movie that for me was a lot of fun.  I enjoyed Austin Powers as pure escapism entertainment and just had fun with it.  There are a lot of tongue in cheek references to anything and everything and it just kept coming at you with its humor.  I enjoyed Austin Powers and I think most people will as well.  Mike Myers even sings on the soundtrack to this movie..........Hmmmmm........makes you think now doesn't it.  Do you really want to hear Mike Myers sing?  Sure you do, because you know it will be fun.

Grade:  B

Parents Guide:  The reason Austin Powers is rated PG-13 is a very good one.  This movie is full of sexual innuendo and has a moderate degree of language and violence.  Innuendo ranges from a scene where Austin walks around completely naked, but there is always something covering his private parts.  (ala Home Improvement with Wilson's face) There is also continuous talk about "shagging" and intercourse on any and all levels of discussion..  Austin's moral judgment is well below the acceptable standards of men in today's society.  This is a fine line between a PG-13 and R film type of movie.  I believe that it can be ok for older teenagers but you may consider keeping them away especially if they are right at 12ish through 14ish as the sexual dialogue may be too much for them.
