Little does he know that the case he will begin investigating is much deeper
than just another serial killer, this culprit has more on his mind that
simply raping and killing these women. As Alex Cross says in the
film, "He's a collector". He's been kidnapping these women and holding
them hostage, probably because he just wants them to "love" him.
He's been following his little plan along for many women, but then he kidnaps
Kate McTiernan (Ashley Judd). She is not about to let him "keep"
her, instead she defies him and gets away. She then has only one
thing on her mind; with the help of Alex, she wants to rescue the other
girls that "Casanova" has in his lair.
Racing against time, Alex and Kate realize
that these women are still alive even though Kate got away. They
must piece together the information she was able to gather during her stay
in captivity.
With
that information they will be able to lay a trap to catch Casanova, and
Kate volunteers to be the bait. She heard other women when she was
held captive, and she wants to keep them alive any way possible.
She knows they are alive, the only thing she doesn't know is for how long.
Morgan Freeman has another role that lets
him showcase his acting abilities. I must say that I am a personal
fan of Morgan and his vast body of work. From Glory to Seven
and from Driving Miss Daisy to The Shawshank Redemption Morgan
has always been a great screen presence.
At
first glance seeing him in this film makes you think of it as a Seven
clone, but Kiss the Girls does have its own identity. Though
this is not one of the best films that Freeman has done, it does have an
interesting way of playing itself out. Freeman is just a pleasure
to watch as the confused and driven Dr. Cross and it's only a matter of
time until he gets his man.
Freeman is joined in Kiss the Girls
by the immensely talented Ashley Judd. Judd is just electric when
she step on the screen in the same way that her talented mother Naomi and
sister Wynonna light up the country music spotlight. As the gritty
yet
determined Dr. Kate McTiernan Judd is allowed to stretch her range of acting
talents. She proves her talents as a bright and shining talent for
the future of Hollywood. I personally can't wait until the next film
that Judd is able to perform in.
This film just misses being a thriller along the lines of a Silence of the Lambs or Seven, it is a slight step down from those films, but is still a fun watch. The thriller twists and turns its way through the Carolina woods and goes from coast to coast before the killer can be found. Just who is Casanova? Do you want to know? See the film and maybe you can find out who Cassanova is.
Grade: B-
Parents
Guide: This film is definitely not for kids.
I would not let my kids see this film. There are a number of terrifying
aspects to this film that are not appropriate for young children.
The killings that do take place are not pretty, and the treatment of these
women as they are held in captivity, are not pleasant. There are
terrifying violent chases and a good dose of language. I would just
say that this film should only be viewed by adults.
