Stars:   Woody Allen, Sylvester Stallone, Sharon Stone, Gene Hackman, Christopher Walken, and a million others.

Antz follows a neurotic worker ant aptly played by Woody Allen known affectionately as Z.  He wants to be more than just the one in a million that he is in the large colony.  Z just feels quite inadequate as he is and longs for the important roles in the colony, such as that of the soldiers like Weaver (Sylvester Stallone).  In fact he is no lively than the day when a strange female ant takes Out on an adventurean interest in him, that ant is Princess Bala (Sharon Stone).  For Z that woman is an example of love at first sight.

Antz takes us through the trials and tribulations of the colony of ants that we quickly brush off when we are walking down the street near an anthill.  There are a variety of "personality" types that inhabit the colony, just as we have a variety of people existing in the world today.

Antz is a very enjoyable film.  It has a great cast that makes for a fun film.  I am normally not a Woody Allen fan, but he seemed to be perfectly cast as the neurotic ant Z.  He easily expresses the fears and expectations of the little guy on the totem pole that is looking to standout from the crowd.  Allen is surrounded Narrowly missing.by ants that are filled with so many star voices that you stand in awe at them.  From the strong soldier buddy Stallone, to the princess Sharon Stone, to the evil ants Gene Hackman and perennial bad guy Christopher Walken.  Through in Jennifer Lopez, Dan Aykroyd, Jane Curtain, Danny Glover, and many others and you have a film that is filled with more star power than anything in the recent past.

Antz is a film that fills opening for a movie that can be seen with both kids and adults.  There are just enough jokes that will keep the young and the old interested for the brief run time of the film.  Each of the characters is unique in their own individual way, and the casting director deserves a great round of applause for finding virtually the perfect individual for each of the interesting roles that are present.  See Antz for a fun time at the movies.

Grade:  B+

Parents Guide:  ANTZ is PG rated and for the most part is fairly tame.  There are some jokes that will go right over the heads of younger kids and are definitely more along the lines of what adults would understand.  One or two small instances of minor language, but overall a great film for most kids.
