What's It About?

Ira Kane (Duchovny) and Harry Block (Jones) are two average ordinary Community College teachers.  They are just going about the day to day routine of teaching (giving out "A's" and conferring on extra credit).  Then one day a meteor strikes their sleepy town and it is up to them to go out and check it out.  What they find is intriguing at the least and after further investigation, it has many more unknown factors then meets the eye.

Will this meteor evolve into something more than a single cell organism?  You'll have to watch to find out.  But once things change, Ira and Harry must do more then investigate...they must save the world from this newly evolved superhuman animals.  Will these two college professors save the world, or will they just be a speed bump in the new Evolution ?

Common Guy's Thoughts

A fun and funny film.  Ivan Reitman has delivered yet another winner.  The environment that is created is kind of a cross between Men In Black and Ghostbusters.  You have an otherworldly story that is based in an out of the way town.  A new environment that is formed to support some alien beings that are able to grow and evolve right here on earth.

The creatures that evolve in this film are fascinating.  They are constantly giving us fun and interesting things to watch onscreen.  From the single cell organisms to the shy little "puppy", we are treated to fun and unique characters.

On top of that we are treated to a very well cast group of characters.  Duchovny's portrayal as the ex-military, college professor is great at delivering deadpan humor.  Julianne Moore comes to the plate with a Chevy Chase-esque bumbling character that puts the klutz in klutzy.  Orlando Jones knows his way around the screen even if he is getting treated for bugs inside him.  And, Seann William Scott is a guy who just looks like he's having fun in the movie (I won't soon forget his rendition of "You Are So Beautiful" -- even if Duchovny and Jones wanted to kill him).

This is a fun film, and I can definitely recommend it to viewers.  No it's not gut busting humor, but it is a fun summertime film that hits the spot.  By the end of the film, you too will have evolved (by at least an hour and a half).

Parents Guide

Rated PG-13 for crude and sexual humor, and for sci-fi action.  The objectionable parts of this film are really that of the crude variety as it states.  This should be a good fit for most young teens as it is fast paced enough and intelligent with just a twinge of over the top humor.
