What's It About?
The lost city of Atlantis has eluded many individuals who have searched the world over. Milo Thatch knows the way to get there, or at least he thinks he does. Milo has been encouraged along the way and he thinks that the lost city is in Ireland...errrr...Iceland. The trick will be try to convince the museum staff that he should go look for it.
Well even though the museum won't listen to him, he may have found his way to search for the lost city. It seems the rich Preston B. Whitmore has to settle on a bet he made with Milo's grandfather. And so he funds Milo's attempt to find the lost empire of Atlantis.
So off on the mission goes Milo, Commander Rourke, Vinny, Helga, and so many more. Their goal is to find the Lost Empire so that Milo can document the whereabouts and what happened to the once great city. Will Milo find it? And will the only purpose of the trip be to document things? This is the journey to Atlantis.
Common Guy's Thoughts
This is an animated film, but it is really not a kids film. Many times when we think of animation we think of kids movies. Atlantis: The Lost Empire is not a kids movie in the way we once viewed things. Sure it is a movie that is age appropriate for kids as well, though some scenes may be a bit on the scary side, but this is truly a film for older kids and adults as well.
The story is a good one, as we follow Milo on his quest. The visual of Milo matches up nearly perfectly with the voice of Michael J Fox. Fox brings life and adventure to the character of Milo as he straddles the line between crazy and brilliant. The voices are half of what makes this film. They have chosen some great individuals for the characters in this film from Fox to James Garner, Don Novello, Cree Summer and Jim Varney.
Disney has also done an excellent job of animated this film (is there ever a question of that). It is a beautiful look at the journey to Atlantis and an even better look at the city itself. It is no wonder that someone like the Milo character would be in search of this end of the world. I really enjoyed the visuals in this film as they were reminiscent of some of the recent animated backgrounds that have graced the silver screen. Bottom line is I enjoyed this film, but don't expect the wacky comic relief character or the toe tapping Disney songs that you are used to in a summer Disney movie. These things are missing, but a truly animated film that is rated PG is what you will find here. Enjoy Atlantis: The Lost Empire, I did.

Parents Guide
Rated
PG for action violence. A PG rated Disney animated film is a rarity to say
the least, but this does have a large amount of action violence. In fact
if it were a live action film, it may have carried a stronger rating. But
this is overall a fine film for the entire family and it may be more geared
towards the older kids anyway with its storyline.
