What's It About?

Lara Croft (Jolie) is an individual that is used to the better things in life.  She was vorn into wealth and educated at some of the best schools.  But her real passion is that she enjoys exploring.  She is a Tomb Raider and she goes on a number of adventures and faces every challenge with a smile .

In Tomb Raider though, Lara must find the two halves of an ancient artifact that will allow the person who possesses it some of the greatest power known to man.  If the artifact falls  into the wrong hands this power can be used for evil, but if Lara finds it first she can save the world, not that this would be the first time that happened.  So will Lara save the world this time?  You'll have to see Tomb Raider to find out.

Common Guy's Thoughts

Tomb Raider is based on the almost legendary game of the same name from Eidos Interactive.  The game has amazed kids of all ages for years and the lead in it was none other that the beautiful animated Lara Croft.  When imagining a character for the role of Lara Croft, I don't think there is another actress that could more perfectly portray the action hero of Lara Croft the way Angelina Jolie does.

Jolie has the look of Lara Croft down beautifully.  I believe that Jolie has the opportunity to fill an underserved niche in Hollywood and provide viewers with the female action hero that has so often been lacking.  She is good in this movie with her custom costumes and visually appealing sets.  In fact for me Jolie is one of the only bright spots in this film.

The problem is that this film fails in its script.  It is very slow moving and disjointed at many points.  There is the lack of a flow that just made me lose interest at many points.  The underlying story of Lara's relation ship with her father (Jolie's real life dad Jon Voight) just seemed so out of place that it was quite disappointing and frustrating to watch.

This is a very beautiful looking film, and Jolie has potential for future roles that are similar, however overall I can't really recommend spending the money to see this theatrically.  This may be a fun video to play before or after playing the video game, but unfortunately that is about it.

Parents Guide

Rated PG-13 for action violence and some sensuality.  No full nudity in this film, but there is a side shots that will leave most of the young boys  that the film is geared at drooling for more.  The violence is typical for a movie of this type, and it doesn't push the R rated line as hard as some PG-13 films.  Over all most teenagers will be ok with this film.
