What's It About?
Nicole (Dunst) is the spoiled rich girl who has everything, or so you would think. The life of the daughter of a congressman who has a nice home and sends his daughter to a good school. Carlos (Hernandez) is the poor student who's mom works extremely hard and gets up to get on a school bus at 5:30 for a two hour ride to school. He is an intelligent jock, she is the rebellious slacker. He is on track for the Navy, she hasn't decided what to do on a Friday night. So how could these two totally different individuals come to be together?
Despite all the odds they do, and this is the story of their relationship. This is like any relationships in high school, it has highs and lows. It has good times and bad. It has Crazy (Nicole) and it has Beautiful (Carlos).
Common Guy's Thoughts
Crazy/Beautiful is a story that we have all seen before in reverse in many ways. Bad girl falls for good boy and good boy becomes enthralled with bad girl. (Usually of course it's the bad boy with the good girl.) Unfortunately for this film, it doesn't give us much new to go on other than the story that we have all heard before.
Dunst is ok as the mixed up trouble youth that is Nicole Oakley, but this just didn't feel like a good role for Dunst from the beginning. I really like Kirsten Dunst, but this film just didn't seem to expand on her character as an actress. I found myself not too concerned about what happened to Nicole in this film, and without that concern the film can't tug on my emotions as much as it they may have wanted. A bright spot for me in this film was Jay Hernandez. His portrayal of Carlos, who has worked hard for everything he has gotten, was impressive. I will be looking forward to seeing where Hernandez goes from here. I've got to believe that he has a very bright future.
Crazy/Beautiful was not a bad movie, it just didn't grab me enough to be considered a really good movie either. I like both of the stars, and I think that in a different vehicle they would both be great together. This one will be mainly for the teenagers out there, and for most will be a winner on video. But unfortunately I'm not ready to go Crazy and give a high recommendation to this film..

Parents Guide
Rated PG-13 for mature thematic material
involving teens, drug/alcohol content, sexuality & language.
This film is not for younger kids as there is some scenes involving drinking,
sex, and drug use that may not be appropriate for younger teens. The
sometimes destructive behavior of Nicole may not be appropriate, but the good
behavior of Carlos is a great model.
