What's It About?
It's one year later and the gang is getting back together. They had a memorable senior year, as we all saw in American Pie. Jim (Biggs) had his internet adventures with Nadia (Elizabeth). Stifler's (Scott) parties were legendary. Kevin (Nicholas) and Vicky (Reid) were the perfect couple. Oz (Klein) would do anything to win over Heather (Suvari) and of course, who could forget Stifler's mom (Jennifer Coolidge)? All of these guys have had another year under their belt. A year a way at college to broaden their horizons.
But now it's home for the summer. Will these situations that we saw in the first film still exist? Probably not, but they have moved on to the next point in their lives and the 5 guys get a house on the lake for the summer to make their first summer after college legendary. And of course legendary it will be! The reuniting of these high school friends will lead to more fun, sexual hi-jinks, and laughs. To get the whole story, you'll need to get another piece of American Pie.
Common Guy's Thoughts
Most sequels have a way of losing their luster. They tend to not include some of the stars from the early versions and struggle to make the grade. But that is most sequels. This is American Pie 2. The surprise performance of the first film spawned this sequel, but they did something that is quite unusual. They brought back virtually the entire cast. Adam Herz is even back to write the sequel. This is the combination that gives off successful vibes. And a success it is.
I really enjoyed this film. I don't remember a film that made me laugh quite as often as American Pie 2. First, be forewarned, this film is not for the meek. As I mentioned earlier, this is a film about a bunch of first year college students and their sexual hi-jinks; it won't be for everyone. But it is the type of movie that is tailor made for a summer release. Make sure you've seen the first American Pie before you dive into this helping. There are a number of running jokes that continue in the second film, and for that reason I would recommend viewing the first version before checking out American Pie 2.
The acting in the American Pie films is not the focus of any of the films, it is more important that the jokes are good. But this film delivers the same fresh, young cast that worked so well together in the first film. Jason Biggs is lovable as the friend who just is very unsure of himself in more ways than one. Seann William Scott is hysterical as the wild party animal Stifler. (admit it, we all knew a Stifler in high school) Eugene Levy shows his awesome comic timing yet again as Jim's dad. And the rest of the cast plays their roles well without ever trying to overpower the rest of the ensemble.
The most impressive part of the film is that they rely on the jokes for the laughs and less on the sight gags. Don't get me wrong, a good amount of the humor is of the sexual nature, but it isn't as visual as a Scary Movie tried to be. Instead this film gives you a chance to use your imagination in a number of occasions, while sprinkling in the sight gags. (Stifler is the victim again at his own party early in the film.)
I liked American Pie 2 and while I'm positive this isn't a film for everyone, I think it will be enjoyed by many though. Sit back, lose the pc mindset for awhile, and enjoy your second piece of pie. The only thing missing from the sequel is a cameo for a warm apple pie.

Parents Guide
Rated R for strong sexual content, crude humor,
language and drinking. This is a film that is definitely not for young
teens. They will really want to see this film, but parents, it is full of
a number of scenes that may be objectionable to you. There are scenes of
excessive drinking at a number of teen parties. Sexual content is rampant
as Jim explores some new ideas and Jim, Stifler and Finch have some interesting
scenarios with two "lesbians?". Overall, I would recommend this film to
keep in the 17 and older crowd, as it just goes too far for most teens
well-being.
