I was always
interested in art,
but it has only been recently that I got serious about painting. Serious
enough to commit time,
every day and a space in my home, set apart, in which to concentrate, study
and learn.

My paintings are representational and color is very important.
I prefer to paint from life. Almost any subject can work for a painting.
The kitchen sink is as important to me as a bouquet
of flowers. I like to be able to see the brush strokes and the paint
should look like paint.
It took several years just to learn how to use the media and find my style.
The inspiration was always there in the works and words of:
VanGogh - "Exaggerate the essential and simplify the obvious."
Matisse - called the "painter of painters," his paintings have an unfinished quality, which is an integral component of his work.
Cezanne - "Two things matter to a painter: his eye and his mind."
Home All paintings are framed in simple, natural pine slat frames, with the exception of "Lilies" and"Yellow Endloader" which are framed in simple maple frames. You may reach me by email at: nraufman@ticon.net Exhibitions and Awards 36th Annual Tallman Festival, Janesville, Wisconsin, August 1992
