Celebrating
our
fifteenth year of
cycling in Ozaukee County
The Ozaukee Bicycle Club was started in 1993 and has grown to roughly 100 members. The club is open to cyclists of all ages and abilities, from beginning riders to experienced racers. Our goal is simply to enjoy road cycling in the company of others who do likewise. Our events range from casual breakfast rides to hard race training. It’s up to you to pick the events that suit your interests.
The club organizes training and recreational touring rides on several days of every week from April to October. In addition, the club provides members with information about rides and activities throughout the area—primarily originating in Ozaukee County. Other benefits of membership include newsletters, free ads in the newsletter, and discounts at area bike shops.
Participation in OBC rides is for members, but please contact the Club Director to get information on the upcoming rides so you can join us once or twice as a guest if you are unsure about becoming a club member.
Helmets are required for all participants in OBC rides. Neither OBC, nor any individual club member assumes responsibility for other riders or their bike. For all OBC club rides, participants should bring a spare tube and related tools, use a suitable road bike in good working order and obey all traffic rules and regulations.
The OBC is a member of the Bicycle Federation of Southeastern Wisconsin, The Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Off-Road Bicycle Association. Each of these organizations is involved with promoting bicycle routes and trails as part of a regional and statewide transportation plan.
This year we will continue a club policy of offering both Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evening rides from April through October. Ride start locations are most often from Cedarburg or Grafton locations shown below, but we use other locations as well. Contact the Director if you are interested in joining us as a guest rider if you are unsure about starting your club membership.
April rides start at 5:30 p.m. For May through August rides, we leave at 6:00 p.m.; then 5:30 p.m. for September and 5:00 p.m. for rides in October.
Helmets are required for all riders.
Our most common ride start locations are given below. Other start locations are used as well. Contact the club Director for details on upcoming rides. Club members are provided with ride schedules, and Yahoo Group calendar information with complete details.
Contact our Director or Assistant Director if you have any questions. Monday, Wednesday and Sunday rides are characterized as “training rides,” in which many members ride harder than they would otherwise ride on Thursday or Saturday rides. Primary routes of 28 to 35 miles are covered in 90 minutes to two hours. Short-cuts are also planned as options for slower riders.
Our fastest riders cycle very aggressively at times but we recommend you ride within your limits, especially if you are unsure about your conditioning. Training rides usually break into two, three or more groups based on ability so you’re likely to find someone who rides at your pace. Saturday rides are by contrast far more leisurely. They nearly always include a breakfast or lunch stop and follow a route different from those used for weeknight rides, with distances ranging from 35 to 55 miles. Usually, we have ability to offer route variations of different distances or challenges.
Saturday rides usually start in Cedarburg, at 8:00 or 9:00 a.m., depending upon the month of the year. Our Saturday rides are considerably more recreational as compared to the Sunday, Monday and Wednesday training rides. Saturday distances may be longer—say as much as 55 or 60 miles— but rides often include a break for a snack or lunch. Check with the Director for details.
Routes are often selected by consensus of participating riders, but there are several Saturday rides that will be planned a month or more in advance.
See the other rides list for info on regional events that may have OBC cyclist participation.
